We came away from the event hugely excited. Software and IT Asset Managers absolutely get that they can be heroes within their organization by optimizing the purchasing, deployment and usage of software. Can they do this on their own though? No, this is a complex challenge.
We’ve drifted far away from a simple world of device based licensing. These days even determining compliance requires knowledge of several desktop and server architectures and technologies. It also requires an ability to cope with seemingly arbitrary and vendor specific rules which change with the direction of the wind.
That’s a full time job, so how is anyone going to find the time to optimize?
The answer is in using tools which deal with the complexity behind-the-scenes and present just what you need to know and what needs to be done to achieve that hero status. When it comes to harvesting unused desktop software our AppClarity product can do it for you. The desire for such software was evident at the IAITAM event, we call it Software License Optimization, and it most definitely is a ‘thing’.
