FAQ: Is client push installation supported for Linux with ConfigMgr 2012 SP1?

With ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 pending release in early 2013 (in time for MMS 2013 – wink, wink), several beta testers are trying to get their minds around building techniques for managing Linux clients (a feature included in ConfigMgr 2012 SP1).  One of the questions that comes up frequently is “how to deploy the Linux client”.

Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as deploying to Windows-based clients.  To install it, you’ll need to learn some new techniques and concepts.  But, one of the more common questions is:

Q: Is client push installation supported for Linux with ConfigMgr 2012 SP1?

A: Client Push Installation is not supported for the Unix/Linux client.

So, if Client Push is not supported, how do you go about deploying the client for Linux/Unix?  Neil Peterson has an excellent post up that describes a method that includes working with Orchestrator.
