Here’s an interesting link I came across today. As a huge piece of the industry continues to hammer on the whole “Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)” strategy, the US Goverment has released its own strategy and posted it publicly. Are they doing it right? There are pieces of their plan that might make for important inclusions in your own BYOD plan.
Some pieces of interest from the government strategy:
- Implementing a BYOD program is not mandatory
- Implementation of a BYOD program presents agencies with a myriad of security, policy, technical, and legal challenges
- The business case for implementing BYOD programs vary from agency to agency
- Transitioning from Blackberry Usage to Bring-Your-Own-Device
The US Govt’s strategy also includes case studies from specific govt organizations that have piloted a BYOD scenario. These includes the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the State of Delaware.
