Pouring salt in the wound: Microsoft posts Zune product manuals overnight

I’ve mentioned before that our family was one of those “Zune” families.  Every member of our crew had a Zune device.  The Zune service was phenomenal, way better and more cost-effective than iTunes.  And, the devices were great.  We loved it.

Then…along with just about everything else Microsoft branded over a 2-3 year period, Microsoft announced the death of the Zune devices.  The Zune music service will live on (kinda) as a Windows 8/XBOX/Windows Phone music service.  Not exactly the same as it was before, but similar.

So…here at our house, we were finally coming to terms with all of this.  We have since started digging more into Spotify for streaming, and Amazon.com cloud services for the albums (MP3s) we buy.  Both are good solutions to replace an orphaned device line and service.

Then…last night…Microsoft posted every one of the Zune product manuals online for download, reminding me about our one-way breakup.  I had to ask “Why?”  Then, it came to me.  With the service and devices stuck in a death spiral, there will probably be very little in the way of support.  And, really…the manual availability will be pretty much the extent of the support.

So, if you own a Zune device (or accessories) you may want to grab these electronic versions of the product manuals for your own use.  20 years from now, you may accidentally find these again in some old cloud storage location and relive the memories.  Not that you’d want to, mind you, just that you could.

Here’s the downloads (all PDF files):
