System Center Operations Manager 2012 Unleashed publication date pushed back

System Center Operations Manager 2012 UnleashedWe mentioned back in February 2012 that the System Center Operations Manager 2012 Unleashed book would be released on July 9, 2012.  Well, as you can tell, July 9, 2012 has come and gone and anyone that had pre-ordered the book received an email from Amazon.com stating the new publication date of November 8, 2012

You can still pre-order the book, it’s just going to take a bit longer to arrive and will make a nice Christmas present for someone.  And, as far as I can see, there’s still not a Kindle version or price listed.  Frankly, I won’t order or pre-order until the Kindle version is available.  eBooks have made my professional life (and the weight of my book shelf) so much easier.

While the original date was this summer, that was an arbitrary date the publisher picked. Since SCOM 2012 did not RTM until April 2012, writing started then and it will take about six months to finish it and a couple of months to print and distiute it, so November 2012 is about right. It’s going to be worth the wait becuase all us authors and contributors are taking extra time on value-adds like tips, real-world lessons learned, and original diagrams and charts. For more information, see our OpsMgr Unleashed blog: http://opsmgrunleashed.wordpress.com/2012/07/09/about-that-email-from-amazon-regarding-opsmgr-2012-unleashed/.

To add to what John said, Kindle availabiilty and prices are up to Amazon, neither we (or SAMS Publishing) have any control over that. For example, System Center 2012 Configuration Manager 2012 Unleashed is at the printer and should be available within several weeks – publication date is July 23 – but Amazon still has not listed Kindle availability or prices. My experience is Amazon waits until the printed matter is available before generating a Kindle version.

If you want access to Unleashed material before it is available on Amazon or Kindle, you can get the “rough cuts” for the book – which is an evolving manuscript that you can read online or download in PDF format. Those typically become available at http://www.informit.com/sams 6-8 weeks before the book is published. Rough cuts are not yet available for the OpsMgr Unleashed book, but its something to keep in mind.

    Hope this helps!
