Microsoft has posted a couple pieces of content talking about how they developed their Private Cloud infrastructure and how they manage it with System Center. Microsoft regularly “dog-foods” their own products and solutions, so you’d expect the delivery of the solutions to customers to be error-free. Isn’t it funny how this is generally not the case? Microsoft has a unique infrastructure, but so does every other company out there, and rarely do customers environments match Microsoft’s.
Still, these docs are a good read and should provide you with your own ideas when implemented a Private Cloud within your organization – if you choose to do so.
First doc: How Microsoft IT Planned and Architected an Enterprise Private Cloud Infrastructure (July 2012)
Second doc: How Microsoft IT Manages a Private Cloud for Microsoft Research & Development (July 2012)
Incidentally, it’s interesting to read the first doc above, compared to a similar doc release in August of 2011 to see how things have changed and progressed.
