Everyone uses Skype don’t they? Microsoft thought so

Did you see Skype 5.9 roll through Windows Update yesterday?  A lot of folks did and started complaining a bit once it began to install throughout the organization.  Skype is not on every PC, but maybe Microsoft wants it to be, because, as admins enabled the Skype update to roll, thinking it would simply update the PCs that already had it installed, it began installing on all PCs connected to their WSUS boxes.

After working with customers and digging through logs, Microsoft quickly expired the update.

If you still have the update in your own list of updates, you may want to decline (not approve) the update.

If Skype did install on some (or more) of your PCs and you want to uninstall it, utilize PSEXEC and use the following command:

psexec \\computername -h -s MsiExec.exe /X{EE7257A2-39A2-4D2F-9DAC-F9F25B8AE1D8} /qn

Drop out here to read through the whole thread from today.  Most of it is interesting, some of it is humorous.
