To help circumvent Google’s iron-handed dictatorship over YouTube access on Amazon devices, Amazon released its Silk web browser for Fire TV and Firefox also released its web browser for Amazon’s video streaming device. After much testing, we’ve found that the Firefox option is the better solution – particularly for video sites like YouTube. In fact, using Firefox on Fire TV to view YouTube videos is just like using an app. Plus, hey, Firefox has been doing this longer and has the web browsing thing down.
And, Firefox seems serious about helping Amazon continue to make the experience a good one. Firefox has added “Turbo Mode” to its Fire TV browser.
Here’s how to enable it:
- Open the Firefox app on your Fire TV.
- Tap the menu button on the Fire TV remote so that the browse lane pops out from the left.
- In the browse lane, click the switch next to Turbo Mode to toggle it on.
