  • Microsoft Deployment Workbench Error – “no tasksequences.xml”

I was recently working on a few things when all the sudden i couldn’t load the LiteTouch_X86.iso without getting an error saying there were no task sequences available.  Now i know all my task sequences were available and up and running and i had verified that tasksequences.xml was in fact in the...

  • Combining multiple images into a single .wim file – Part 1 – Capturing the Image(s)

This information is provided as is, this can be a complicated process, so you do so at your own risk. I am also unsure of what level of “supported-ness” (i think i made that word up) this has by Microsoft, so again, you do so at your own risk. :) Now that we’ve stated the usual stuff, lets begin…. Here...

  • ConfigMgr MDT 2010 Bug – changing case on Run Command Line

Looks to be a weird bug from what I can tell.  Looks like if you create a Run Command Line step and type the command in one case, then try to come back later and change the case (you find out it’s a case sensitive command) you cannot change the case.  You have to delete and recreate the step...

  • Custom Front End – Name and OU prompt - ConfigMgr/MDT 2010/Pre-execution hook

This information is provided as-is… proceed at your own risk… Provided with MDT 2010 SCCM integration is a pre-execution hook that allows for a computer name prompt prior to execution of the task sequence.  This works great for bare metal installs and avoids the MININT% name.  An additional...

  • Understanding USMT with MDT 2010

Been a lot of questions on the lists lately about USMT and which version to use with what OS, and the fact that USMT 4.0 doesn’t support restoring to Win XP.  Tim Mintner put together a great post explaining USMT within the workbench (LTI) and within ConfigMgr (ZTI).  Take a look: http://deployment...

  • Microsoft Deployment Toolkit – Tattoo Information

Another great feature of MDT integration with SMS/ConfigMgr is the information that is tattoo’d into the system during deployment.  Through the use of a sms_def.mof extension, you can then report against this information and create a web report or reports to identify imaged systems and the relevant...
