SMS inventories are based on WMI classes and objects. This information is natively present on every Windows platform since Windows 2000 and is more and more used by products. Through a direct query to the WMI of any of these systems you can find:
- All hardware information from hard disk space to network data or user group membership
- Operating system configuration such as patch level
- Together with a valid SMS architecture, SMS Desk can provide any information from the inventories
