This is rather interesting. Apparently Microsoft is going to release Google Earth backwards on Feb 27th. Meaning that instead of zooming and panning in on Earth you will be able to do the same with cosmos! This should be quite interesting. It is reported that they will use 10 Earth bound telescopes as well as the beleaguered Hubble telescope to produce an explorable cosmos for your desktop. It will be interesting to see how they deal with distance for the stars as this is always been the major problem...

First of all, Happy New Year, and may everyone find that in 2008 that your glass is more than half full, you and your loved ones are all very healthy and overly happy, that your careers are very prosperous, and that you gain all that you desire and more. As we welcome another year and reflect on the year ending it is always nice to note what was the highlights of the year. So below is my personal top ten of 2007 when it comes to Systems Management. 10. Thursday, October 23rd, System Center Partner...

Late last year I first posted about Vienna, the next version of Windows. It has changed code names again and is now called Windows Version 7. Let's hope it is better looking than Windows Version 3.15. It is due out in 2010, which puts on a four year release cycle instead of three, but is better than five. As some still struggle with the reasoning behind upgrading to Vista it looks like they will still offer support for 32 bit computing instead of 64 bit only in 2010. Which means that if your...

And Windows Live Hotmail is launched globally. Remember when you could view your Hotmail account in Outlook for free? Well the days of old have returned, okay maybe it wasn't that long ago. Microsoft has announed that Windows Live Hotmail is launching globally in 36 languages around the world. With this release, Microsoft is focussing on providing offline access to your emails from a desktop computer or a mobile device. 1) Outlook Connector for Outlook 2003 and 2007: A few months ago, Microsoft...

Well maybe it’s not the greatest new feature but there are list I subscribe to that I do not post to because of the number of out of office replies it generates. I had messed around with the OO rules but if you do custom rules the internal people get a reply each time, the default one only sends them one per day. But finally Outlook lets you setup rules for internal and different rules for external! From James Senior’s blog . That’s one long training session! '> Listen to this...

Very nice Ben! See below to discover how to mount a VHD by clicking it with Ben’s reg key. Original source: Double clicking on a VHD to mount it Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 Beta 2 includes 'vhdmount' - a tool to allow you to mount a virtual hard disk directly on your host operating system. While vhdmount is provided as a command line tool - a very small amount of work will allow you to mount VHDs by just double clicking on them. By creating a .reg file with the following contents: Windows Registry...

A long time ago I learned some very important rules of email, which also apply to blogging. Never, ever, ever, think that anything you write will not be read by your manager, director, head of HR, CIO, President, CEO, Board, wife, friends, customers, future customers, future hiring manager (Hello again!), children, those who don’t care for you, peers, NSA - you get the idea. Also never assume that what you write or say will be perceived as you think it should, or repeated in context. And finally...

My birthday party was at Sea World this year, from what I heard last year it was at Circus Circus and it was a flop. My wife, daughter, and I had a great time, the food was good, I didn’t see anyone that was too drunk, and we won so many stuffed animals that I needed a garbage bag to carry them all; a good time was had by all. The Sea World staff was very friendly and helpful and the fact that I did not have to pay for parking, dinner, or anything was great. Nice job Microsoft! It’s not every birthday...

I woke up this morning to that wonderful sound of Chinese water torture. My gutters need to be cleaned so when it rains the water doesn’t just flow down the spout, it actually thuds on the bottom. So I get up and wander into the living room, look out on to the patio and it is covered. It has been raining here since the beginning of March, while I know that is normal for most of the US, I live in a desert, deserts are not defined by temperature, but annual rainfall. But it has been cold too! So looking...
