This is not a part of ConfigMgr, this this a separate management tool that does a ton more than what you can do with mobile devices in ConfigMgr. You can get a 120 day eval of Mobile Device Manager (MDM) from Microsoft's TechNet site here . What is MDM you ask? "The goal of MDM is simple: Enable Windows Mobile powered devices to become managed and authenticated members of the IT infrastructure of an organization. The Windows Mobile platform is the ideal platform for this solution. The features...

First of all, Happy New Year, and may everyone find that in 2008 that your glass is more than half full, you and your loved ones are all very healthy and overly happy, that your careers are very prosperous, and that you gain all that you desire and more. As we welcome another year and reflect on the year ending it is always nice to note what was the highlights of the year. So below is my personal top ten of 2007 when it comes to Systems Management. 10. Thursday, October 23rd, System Center Partner...

Yes it is true the ConfigMgr Doc team has released a new update to the offline help included in ConfigMgr! And there is a ton of updates to the help file (see below) included in the 7.5 MB download . I think this is an excellent idea so that you can search and get information when you are testing or if you ConfigMgr server does not have a connection to the Internet. Ping Topic last updated—November 2007 The following table describes what's new in the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager...

On the System Center Configuration Manager site there is currently a list of five audiocast or podcasts that you can listen to. They are all fairly short and cover a specific area of ConfigMgr. Wally kicks it off with the best practices for upgrading and setup, and also discusses a few new features and prerequisites. I am sure they will add more to this over time so if you are reading this months after it has been posted use the bottom link to get to the page and see the whole list. NOTE: The links...

In another move to get away from the newsgroups Microsoft has opened up the System Center Configuration Manager Community that includes a web based forums section . On the front page you will find a link to the subforums of ConfigMgr, Microsoft employee blogs, MVP blogs (not mine however?), and links to related communities like myITforum.com . If you have never worked with Microsoft PSS, PFE, QFE, MCS, RRE, or any other arm of their professional support staff you may not be aware of the tools that these army of men and women come equipped with to resolve issues. These are often home grown, field developed, custom tools that these same folks have written to help customers and the support staff at Microsoft quickly resolve issues and the WMIDiag tool is a prime example of this. Often these tools are used only by the Microsoft staff and are...

The rumors of my death are all untrue, I have merely been out of the country and working very hard. In the next couple of days I will release an extensive new article on fixing WMI so stay tuned. In the mean time there is a hotfix for wireless issues in Windows Vista, you will have to contact Microsoft Support or your TAM to get this hotfix but I have experienced one of these symptoms on my own laptop so I am sure others will find this useful. Several problems occur on a Windows Vista-based computer...

Wally is going to hold two SCCM 2007 webcasts at the beginning of July. The first one on deploying SCCM, the second on deploying SCCM clients. If you haven't attended a webcast by Wally you are missing out as he is a very unique presenter, plus he knows SMS pretty well, to put it mildly. TechNet Webcast: Deploying System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (Level 200) Monday, July 02, 2007 - 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Pacific Time Wally Mead, Senior Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation http://msevents...

Speaking of a NAP, I am finally getting used to the time difference over here in London and I got up at 4 AM today. BTW you can get a sense of what site I have seen over the weekend by checking out my pics here . Get a look at NAP from more than what you have read in the SCCM docs during this Webcast. Jeff is the release manager of NAP and this is the same presentation given at the MVP summit. Come and see a live webcast of NAP and Longhorn Server Beta 3 Published 07 May 07 01:00 PM | MS NAP Team...

On Connect there appears to be a new version of SCCM 2007 it is labeled build 5578, and release date of yesterday. I haven't used SCCM in seveal months and don't recall the build number and haven't seen this confirmed anywhere yet. Main page here , and main Connect page here . As Rod points out , as we closer to MMS you can expect a flood of new SCCM and SCOM information and downloads. On Friday there was a TechNet webcast on using WmiDiag version 2 for troubleshooting WMI issues. I wasn't able to attend so I can provide any details, here is the introduction on the TechNet site. "The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is a pervasive component of Microsoft Windows that is often useful in critical situations. Many enterprise management applications rely on WMI, so it is important that administrators know how to troubleshoot it properly. In this webcast, we explore how the WMI...

This reminds me of Feedster and I like it, when I plug in SMS 2003 here is what I get. Rejoice that the boffins at TechNet have released a new scoped TechNet search , that includes an RSS feed of your favorite search. How great is that? You scope your search to the products and technologies that are relevant to you, then save your search query as an RSS feed, so that future search results matching your query will automatically show up in the feed. TechNet calls this "Enhanced Search" and all I can...
