I have been working with JD, Brian, and Nelson this week in Minneapolis. At lunch today Brian and were talking about blogging and he had a good suggestion, I should change the title of my blog to The Monthly Ramblings of an SMS Engineer”. Since I post so infrequently now. I won’t apologize for my lack of posts however. I do work quite a bit, just ask my manager and customers. I am also writing a book on ConfigMgr with Mozby and Ron Crumbaker. So it’s more of a...

I used to hate the second Tuesday of every month. I honestly liked it better when patches were released as they were ready. What happens with the scheduled updates is that everyone knows that it is coming and that means that everyone expects their SMS Engineers to have the patches deployed that night, no matter how late, no matter how many people, no matter what! And on Wednesday morning, usually around nine, everyone wants to know the status of the deployments. For me I had some advantages, one...

You would think from my recent posts that I am having a horrible couple of weeks but I swear I am not! Other than the recent hate mail I have received from some of the SMS list subscribers that has caused me to unsubscribe from the list and a couple isolated incidents the last couple weeks have been great! My flight back from the UK being one of the worst, but I won't go into that...But this post is great news! Yesterday I signed up for DirecTV for my new house! We move in on the 18th and I have...

While the article below highlights complaints posted to the WSUS product team blog if you read in the newsgroups it seems that this has fixed a number of peoples problems. They essentially lowered the priority that the process runs under so while the CPU will still show 100% used you can still work as it will hand back CPU cycles as other processes or threads request them. There is a trade off here, you can scale back the scan to only use < a certain percent of the total CPU available and extend...

Source . The NFL today announced that they'll be testing the delivery of live Thursday and Saturday night games over the Internet to Verizon Fios customers. The NFL will be testing the system internally during this Thursday's Ravens Bengals game, with broader deployment on December 6 if everything works out. Traditionally the NFL has been significantly behind Major League Baseball when it came to giving fans what they want. The NFL, still locked into their exclusive relationship with DirecTV, traditionally...

Great news arrived in my Inbox today in the way of a question from one of our developers. I looks like homes near the University of Redlands are going to start getting Verizon FIOS later this week! While I am on the other side of Redlands it looks like it should be available to me by the end of the year. Anyone want to guess what I want for Christmas this year? It also appears that TWC is upgrading speed in markets where FIOS is available in an effort to retain customers. I guess this makes a sense...

So in our last episode Time Warner was ordered by the FCC to put the NFL Network back on for subscribers because of the lack of anything more than a 24 hour notice that they were going to turn off their channel. The FCC also made some comments about their reasons for doing so, which I will get into in a minute. On September 15th Time Warner turned off the NFL Network for those of us in the L.A. market, and I would assume in the rest of the markets they absorbed during the bankruptcy of Adelphia....

As the Time Warner and Comcast deal to purchase bankrupt Adelphia went into affect today they removed the NFL Network from my choice of channels. Last night after about a 12 hour work day I turned on the NFL Network to watch the hour long review of the Packers training camp and across the top of my TV screen was a notice that my beloved TV network was being axed. The NFL Network is carrying eight regular season games this year, along with every preseason game. I imagine that they will continue to...

One of my pet peeves, besides confirmation dialogs (YES I am SURE!), is people who store the personal information of others on a laptop. There is no real need for this any longer, Verizon broadband anywhere, VPN/SSL, Bluetooth Internet connected phones, etc. The total stolen records on this page is 88,000,000+, the total just from laptops being stolen is over 27,000,000. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/07/a_chronology_of.html “The data breaches noted below have been reported because...

Come one now…I love the part where they take your computer for months. Are they trying to find networks or uppatched computers? Is this really something Sherrifs are qualified to do? And what wireless network is secure? Shouldn’t they focus on drunk drivers instead of sitting out in front of a residence for hours at a time? Or maybe handing out tickets to people that drive 40 in a school zone? Can’t wait to hear Rod and Chris’ comments. The Sherrif's department is fitting...

At a recent convention I had a conversaion with someone who works for Google and I finally got a chance to ask a question that I wanted to ask a Google employee for quite some time. 'When is Google going to concentrate on something and make it like their search engine was back in 99?' He laughed, and thought it was funny. I guess he thought I was joking, I wasn't, but I left it at that. (See the problem?) I don't care that they came out with a spreadsheet program, I have one, it works great. How...

Best place for breakfast, real breakfast. Brians’ Eatery & Drinkery 828 Sixth Ave. San Diego, Ca 92101 Breakfast Lunch Dinner and Late Night The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is several blocks up from the Convention Center but it was right around the corner from my hotel. The food was great, no waiting in line for a table, and it is kind of out of the way. At night they have live entertainment. Best place for lunch. Cine Café 412 K St San Diego, Ca This is a sandwich shop that is located...
