Hibernation Hotfix for Windows XP and Vista and Insomnia Madness

April 08, 2008

I have read of reports where systems will not resume from hibernation but have not seen it replicated myself. Well if you have seen this problem in your environment this patch , released on April 7th by Microsoft (KB 951126), may be just what the doctor ordered. Insomnia? Ambien... I have also heard reports of a software vendor that claims to have a patch for a situation they refer to as insomnia. They claim that a bug in the Windows operating system will actually prevent the system from going into...  ... Read the full post or  be the first to comment. Filed under: , , , ,

How To Save Your Company Millions Of Dollars The Easy Way!

May 11, 2007

What would your IT Director and CIO say if you ran into them in the elevator and asked them "What would you say if I could save the company a half a million dollars a year?" Not too long ago one of the projects I was managing was a TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) project. We looked for the highest costs for desktop support and focused in on those areas only, so we left out things like training for end users, software and hardware procurement, just because the savings were not that great and...  ... Read the full post or  the first comment. What Are Your Computers Doing At Night?

April 24, 2007

If you are using SMS to install patches or applications at night do you leave them on all the time? Do they stay on 24 hours a day? Seven days a week? If you leave your computers on at night they are only actually being used for 8, maybe 9 hours a day but are on for 24, and don't forget the weekends! And its not just the CO2 and the electricity that computer uses, but they have to pay to cool that office as well so if you leave it on they then have to cool it down for that 15 hours that you are...  ... Read the full post or  the first comment.
