Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 SCSI Driver Demystified
There seems to be a lack of information around the virtual SCSI driver in Microsoft Virtual Server 2005, or at least information that is easy to find so here are some tips on getting the most out of this driver and how it compares to the IDE driver. You don't have to have a physical SCSI card or SCSI hard drives to use SCSI in Virtual Server 2005. The SCSI driver is a virtual SCSI driver for a...
Multicasting in Server 2008
Kevin is right, this has already been talked about , but he does a nice job of explaining the two types of multicasting. Two drawbacks to this however...First you cannot multicast across subnets, well you can but if your network supports this you are wide open to a SQL Slammer type of attack where one laptop brings your network to its knees. Second, you have to have Server 2008 to make this work. A...
Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 Delayed
What is the status? Windows Server 2008, formerly Longhorn, will be delayed until Q1 of 2008 but will be available to SA and MSDN subscribers prior to RTM. SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 are scheduled to be released with Server 2008 so I can only assume they will be delayed as well. Vista SP1 also suffers from the same fate, delayed until Q1 of 08. The BETA of Vista SP1 will be available to...
Windows Server 2008 Launch Feb 27
Announced at the World Wide Partner Conference yesterday was the release date for Server 2008, which also coincides with the release of Vista SP1, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2008. This is the missing piece for NAP with Config Manager, as it will not work without it . The NAP client will also only be supported on XP SP3, Vista, and Server 2008. Longhorn Now Windows Server 2008

And it might do so as early as next week to coincide with the Windows Hardware Engineering...

Microsoft Implements Multicast to Imaging - Finally!
If you have used multicast to image computers in the past you know it can be much faster than unicast, for obvious reasons. This is also one of the biggest complaints I hear about using RIS, or its replacement WDS. Well it looks like WDS is going to get multicast, and even a better multicast than what is available today. Read Keith's post below to get more details. Multicast imaging support coming...

How to Recover Deleted Files from a Network Share!
Ward has posted over on his blog one great new feature that I was not aware of in Longhorn. The ability to tick a checkbox and have files deleted from a network share go the Recycle Bin instead of just being deleted. I know I have been asked several times why a file cannot be restored from the Recycle Bin after being deleted from a file share, this should eliminate this. I wonder how they will maintain...
