I have read of reports where systems will not resume from hibernation but have not seen it replicated myself. Well if you have seen this problem in your environment this patch , released on April 7th by Microsoft (KB 951126), may be just what the doctor ordered. Insomnia? Ambien... I have also heard reports of a software vendor that claims to have a patch for a situation they refer to as insomnia. They claim that a bug in the Windows operating system will actually prevent the system from going into...

There is a hotfix available for an issue where in ConfigMgr the status summarizer stops working and a backlog SVF files begin to pile up in the OfferSum inbox. This was first reported publicly on December 3rd on the myITforum.com SMS mailing list by Lane K. Shortly after it was reported Brian Huneycutt, an Escalation Engineer at Microsoft, launched an investigation into this issue. After it was confirmed a KB was created and sent through the release process. Update: (Dec 9 9:00 GMT) hotfix now publicly...

I used to hate the second Tuesday of every month. I honestly liked it better when patches were released as they were ready. What happens with the scheduled updates is that everyone knows that it is coming and that means that everyone expects their SMS Engineers to have the patches deployed that night, no matter how late, no matter how many people, no matter what! And on Wednesday morning, usually around nine, everyone wants to know the status of the deployments. For me I had some advantages, one...

The rumors of my death are all untrue, I have merely been out of the country and working very hard. In the next couple of days I will release an extensive new article on fixing WMI so stay tuned. In the mean time there is a hotfix for wireless issues in Windows Vista, you will have to contact Microsoft Support or your TAM to get this hotfix but I have experienced one of these symptoms on my own laptop so I am sure others will find this useful. Several problems occur on a Windows Vista-based computer...

In case you do not want to install BDD 2007 v 1.1 and just want the hotfix instead make sure you install it correctly. Ben Hunter and Michael Niehaus both point this out what could go wrong on their blogs. Be sure to use the correct installation command line as detailed by Michael Niehaus. If you do not install the patch in the correct manner you may find that it has changed your customized scripts or even updated the location of the distribution share in the registry. Here are some alternatives...

While the article below highlights complaints posted to the WSUS product team blog if you read in the newsgroups it seems that this has fixed a number of peoples problems. They essentially lowered the priority that the process runs under so while the CPU will still show 100% used you can still work as it will hand back CPU cycles as other processes or threads request them. There is a trade off here, you can scale back the scan to only use < a certain percent of the total CPU available and extend...

In SMS 2003 you had to specify an account with local admin privileges on the computers you were targeting for the client push. Typically this was an account that was in the Domain Admins group, even though it was not recommended. But because of local Administrator password problems, users with local admin rights and so on using anything less often netted very little success. New in SCCM is the ability to use the computer$ account for the install. This means that you can now use the SMS server's computer...

A long time ago I learned some very important rules of email, which also apply to blogging. Never, ever, ever, think that anything you write will not be read by your manager, director, head of HR, CIO, President, CEO, Board, wife, friends, customers, future customers, future hiring manager (Hello again!), children, those who don’t care for you, peers, NSA - you get the idea. Also never assume that what you write or say will be perceived as you think it should, or repeated in context. And finally...
