After you win the Wii at the 1E booth (311) at MMS and you have made Pro on all the sports, have made all your family members and friends into Wii peeps, the next logical step is to stream all your music and videos with it from your PC upstairs to your Wii downstairs in your media room. XBox does this out of the box (no pun intended) from what I have heard, since my daughter is only in second grade and my son is just in junior high they aren't quite ready for an XBox, plus I suck at video games...

How often do you defrag your hard drives? Do you think it is often enough? Defragging your drives can make a substantial difference in performance, seek times as well as the health of your drive can be improved if you defrag your drives on a regular basis. Keep in mind that hard drives are mechanical devices and eventually one of those moving parts is going to fail and you can extend the life of your drives by making them work less when you try to get a file. Don't believe me? How about ExtremeTech...

Did you know that Vista natively supports partition resizing in Windows Vista? If you go into Computer Management and navigate down to Storage, and then Disk Management in the right window pane you can select a volume, shrink that volume by right clicking on the volume and selecting Shrink Volume. This will open a dialog box to shrink the volume where you can configure how small you would like to make it, of course it cannot shrink it past the size of the data on the drive, if you want to completely...

The amount of storage you can get with a free online email account now is probably 10x's larger than your first hard drive. I have used Gmail since it was by invite only and it still works great the SPAM filtering works very well and I like the way the conversations only take up a single line, indicating how many in the thread and if it is unread. One thing I would like to see is folders, Stars are okay, and labels help, but folders would be great. The mail search is the key benefit I get from...

Let me first say Happy Mothers Day to all the wonderful Mothers out there hopefully you are having/had a superb Mothers Day!!! Today is Mothers Day in the US if you hadn't guessed. This is just amazing, this is the third time today that I have found someone already had a solution to a question I was asked just this last week. This is one, managing SMS clients in both workgroup and a domain, and problems with WinPE and RealTek drivers. This is a very cool solution to someone asking me something...

Internet Explorer’s Annoying Download Limit: Fixed Lifehacker has a hugely helpful Registry fix that allows Internet Explorer 7 to have unlimited simultaneous downloads. See, IE7 only allows you to download two files at once, and makes you sit around like a dope waiting for one to finish before it allows you another. By changing this Registry key, you can increase that amount to unlimited, letting you download as you damn well please. The Registry key is located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft...

Direct WAV MP3 Splitter is an easy-to-use and very fast tool to split or cut MP3 and WAV files. It allows you to quickly split large files without recompression and quality loss and save the results into new files. The program also works as an automatic MP3 splitter. A build-in audio player lets you listen to audio files (with adjustable speed) and then split them with automatic track numbering. You can automatically split MP3 and WAV files into equal-sized parts (using time, size or number of parts...

So you try to install a software package in SMS, it does go as you planned and then when you look in the ExecMgr.log you see something like this A failure exit code of -1073741790 was returned. This of course means nothing to you, how could you get a negative number as an exit code? Here is how to convert that long negative integer into a meaningful exit code that will give a real error message. Open up Calculator form Accessories, change it into scientific mode (view/Scientific) in Dec/Degrees mode...

My son and I built this on Saturday . The wife is sick so we can get away with pretty much anything as long as we time it while she is sleeping and have it relatively cleaned up before she awakens from her slumber. We did make one modification to it, instead of using a weighted item we used a rubberband and attached it to the base. This gave us the ability to modify the amount of tension on the arm for different objects. It worked as planned, ours didn't have wheels, we figured we didn't need wheels...

I really enjoy these types of sites, and now some of the authors from O'Reilly's series of hack books have combined with the publishers of Make magazine site to make the new site that will cover how to hack your stuff to work in the way you like it, not what the R&D department found that most people would like. That's right, not VNC, not Remote Desktop, a TV remote. I love this site and just came across is last week, Cool Toys is favorite of mine too. But instrucables had a contest over the holidays for the best build it at home gifts, they are all outstanding but this one relates to computers and it is cheap! If you get the parts, software, and own a remote, say that TV tuner remote, you can control your PC with this. From his write up... introPC remote control "This project contains all about how to make...

Hope everyone had a great holiday. Mine was outstanding! I always love giving more than getting but my wife always amazes me because I am so hard to shop for and yet she always gets me something great, usually more than one thing. Below is a hack on how to enable ReadyBoost in Vista on devices that may not be quite fast enough to be supported. Source . Windows ReadyBoost is a great technology, caching things on USB drives to improve system performance, but Windows Vista insists on checking the drives...

I know I am not alone in suffering from this frustration before. You are at the library, in class, at work, anywhere but at home on your own network and you want to print something, maybe a rebate form, your taxes, homework, an article on how to upgrade to SMS 2003 SP2, whatever it is you want it printed on your printer at home. So you save it to a USB drive, or you email it and then when you get home you print it out. Printer Anywhere eliminates that. Now you can print to your home printer from...

I have tired this out on my HP tablet and it works great! Nice work Jason! Make any Screensaver as your desktop Wallpaper You can run a screensaver, ANY screensaver as your Vista Desktop. System impact? Zero. Vista performance impact? Zero. So, are you ready to give it a try? It involves a bit of a hack. But if you are the farthest thing from a Windows power user, you can do the same thing via an application that automates the process. This tool will enable you to select the screen saver and schedule...
