May 28, 2008

While they also updated several of their tools like Process Explorer, Handle, ZoomIt and SigCheck, the much more interesting news is that you don't have to download the tools any longer and put them somewhere in %PATH% you can execute them directly from the website. How cool is that? From a command prompt or Run simply type \\live.sysinternals.com\tools\<tool name here> And this site has all of their tools, check it out on their site at http://live.sysinternals.com You can sill download...  ... Read the full post or  the first comment. Turning Your Wii Into a Streaming Media Center

April 12, 2008

After you win the Wii at the 1E booth (311) at MMS and you have made Pro on all the sports, have made all your family members and friends into Wii peeps, the next logical step is to stream all your music and videos with it from your PC upstairs to your Wii downstairs in your media room. XBox does this out of the box (no pun intended) from what I have heard, since my daughter is only in second grade and my son is just in junior high they aren't quite ready for an XBox, plus I suck at video games...  ... Read the full post or  be the first to comment. OneNote PowerToys

March 30, 2008

If you don't know I am a HUGE OneNote fan and have converted countless people from using Notepad, Notepad2, Word, paper, you name it to using OneNote since it first came out in Office 2003. (If you are only interested in the the list of OneNote PowerToys, skip this section and scroll down). Some of my favorite things are the ability to write anywhere, assign "tags" to notes, copy and drag from anywhere, any application, webpage, pdf - anywhere into a OneNote page, and have it enter...  ... Read the full post or  the 2 comments. New FolderShare

March 10, 2008

FolderShare has gotten a face lift, new client, and has moved to the Windows Live platform. If you are not familiar with FolderShare Microsoft bought them a couple years ago and the concept is that you can setup shares among computers that sync with each other. I have been using it for years to sync computers and make sure that I have the same documents on each computer. You can set the sync to be automatic or on demand, you can also share your FolderShare libraries with your friends. It is similar...  ... Read the full post or  be the first to comment. Repurpose That Old Laptop

February 23, 2008

Most IT related folks have an old laptop laying around that is too slow for what they need to do or they get a brand new one every six months. I know I have one that the hard drive has bad sectors on and don't want to spend the $40-60 to get a replacement drive since I have over half a dozen computers in my house and only four people. I have used it for testing in the past, setting up Server 2003 with SMS 2003 on it for upgrade testing to CM, testing the 1E products in different configurations...  ... Read the full post or  be the first to comment. Defrag Your Hard Drive

January 01, 2008

How often do you defrag your hard drives? Do you think it is often enough? Defragging your drives can make a substantial difference in performance, seek times as well as the health of your drive can be improved if you defrag your drives on a regular basis. Keep in mind that hard drives are mechanical devices and eventually one of those moving parts is going to fail and you can extend the life of your drives by making them work less when you try to get a file. Don't believe me? How about ExtremeTech...  ... Read the full post or  the first comment. Filed under: , , , ,

AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 Professional for FREE

December 26, 2007

Computer Active is giving away the Pro version of AVG for free. I use the free version of AVG on several computers at home and it works fine, you get those annoying widows during updates because it is free, with Pro you can turn that off. Right now it looks like their servers are being flooded but you have until Jan. 17th with the option to stop the offer at anytime, which means they only have so many licenses. Direct download . Details here . Regards, Anthony Anthony Clendenen | Solutions Engineer...  ... Read the full post or  be the first to comment. Filed under: , ,

Paint .NET 3.20 is Available for Free

December 16, 2007

If you wonder how I make those images, its all done with Paint .NET , which is 100% free and all the plugins are 100% free. I know Ron and Rod use it as well and you cannot be the price. I have used Photoshop and it is a great product but kind of pricey! Paint .NET is build from the .NET Framework and costs you nothing so if you haven't tried it and use another similar product you should give it a try .
