Oakley Sunglasses Are Overpriced!
I have been working with JD, Brian, and Nelson this week in Minneapolis. At lunch today Brian and were talking about blogging and he had a good suggestion, I should change the title of my blog to The Monthly Ramblings of an SMS Engineer”. Since I post so infrequently now. I won’t apologize for my lack of posts however. I do work quite a bit, just ask my manager and customers. I am also writing a book on ConfigMgr with Mozby and Ron Crumbaker. So it’s more of a lack of time and certainly not because of a lack on interest.
But another topic at lunch was my pair of Oakley sunglasses. A little over a year ago my wife bought me a pair of Oakley A Wire polarized sunglasses, they were in the realm of $300. It was a very thoughtful present as I am very sensitive to light and I have to squint and stare at the ground when I am outside while it is sunny and I don’t have sunglasses. After about a month the left lens came out of them while they were tucked away in my laptop bag in the overhead compartment on a flight. I thought it strange but just put it back into the frames. This was fine for a couple months and then it happened again and started to happen more frequently, even just putting them in pocket would sometimes cause the lens to come out. So I took them to an Oakley store, they tightened the screw, and that held them OK for about a month and then the process started again. I took it to an optometrist next, and he looked at them, cleaned them, tightened the screw and sent me on my way. I am sure you can guess where this story is going, so the lens came out right before MMS, and I was pushing a cart through a parking lot and screw was lost during the journey to my parking spot. So I began carrying the lens and frames in the car until I could stop at an Oakley store, a few weeks ago I found one while we were on vacation, it took them in and asked them for a screw. They told me they didn’t have spare screws but if I had my receipt I could send them in to Oakley and they would put the screw in for me. Well of course I have the receipt, I keep it with the other 6 bazillion receipts I get while I travel the world for work. Yes I keep it in my wallet, it goes everywhere with me. Grrr…. I am sure though the Oakley has some record of my purchase, they make these cool things I have heard about called databases, maybe they have one of those? I guess when I spent $300 on a pair of (non-prescription) sunglasses I would get better service than the blow off. So now I have a pair of essentially brand new $300 sunglasses that are worthless because I can’t get a stupid screw from the manufacturer.
All that being said, this is another example why you should get and use an American Express card. Had she used her AMEX card to buy these, I wouldn’t have to worry about this, they would either make Oakely fix them, send me a new pair, or refund me 100% of my purchase without a hassle.
BTW Hyper-V went RTM today.

Anthony
