eWallet Is Your Friend!

May 12, 2007

I have been using Illiumsoft's eWallet for years.  It all started one sunny day back in...sorry...eWallet stores passwords and a ton more!

I recently switched to Cingular or the new at&t  (Hey Rick J.!) to be on the same plan as the other 1E SE's in the US and moved to a Palm Treo 750 Windows Moobile PDA phone.  I have had so many PDA's over the year and I usually give them up after six months because I never found one that really did what I wanted.  For this one all I need is to get email, make phone calls, and take the occasional note so it should fit the bill nicely.  Back to eWallet though, back when I was an IT staff member just like everyone else I had so many passwords that it was impossible to keep them all in my head.  eWallet takes care of that for you, it will store all your passwords and even generate passwords for you if you can't think of a good one.  It will also store things like URL's that you can enter your user name and password into, you click on the stored URL's and it will auto populate the logon info for you and even click the OK button.  It stores credit card numbers, addresses, passport info, car info, contacts, software serial numbers, social security info, club membership info (Hertz, American Airlines), calling cards, SSIDS, I can't recall them all and if it doesn't have a card for you, you can build your own with the fields you need, and it stores it all securely with RC4 256 bit encryption.  The PDA part comes into play because you can sync your stored wallet to your mobile device so when you go to the server room and find rack 153 with that primary site you have not logged into in 8 months you pull out your mobile and you have the password right there!  Or the next time you go to order that Creative Zen Vision 60 GB portable, you have your CC number without ever having to get up and get your wallet!

The pic on the right is a screen shot of my copy of eWallet, some of the names have been changed to protect the innocent, but you can see my blog password is there with the link to the site, the dollar sign is one of my bank accounts, the blue square is one of my CC's, and the green squares are my Hertz and National membership numbers.  On the left side you can see the list, but what you don't see is the other categories I have for rather obvious reasons.  If you find yourself looking in multiple places for this type of info, or getting up to from your computer to find this type of info you should consider eWallet, you can use it only on your PC or sync it with a mobile device as well, I used it for years without having a mobile device and still used it almost every day.  One of the best features is the password generator because you can really give everything a unique password like everyone recommends.

Regards,
Anthony
