Rodney Sherwood starts off the keynote again this year with this comedy and a video of interviewing the stars at MMS.

Senior VP Server and Tools, Bob Muglia was the keynote speaker.  He started out with the Dynamic Systems Initiative (DSI).  One part of the DSI is Virtualized infrastructure which consists of Virtual Server 2005 R2 and SoftGrid. 

Virtualization, OS virtualization "Viridian" Longhorn or Windows Server 2007, VPC, VS 2005 RS.  Application virtualization is SoftGrid, focus now is on the client PC, but eventually it will also virtualize server side applications and services.  Presentation layer Windows 2003 Terminal Server.  Longhorn will allow you to run as many virtual machines without needing any additional licenses. 

Jeff Woosley Senior PM Demo 1 Longhorn Virtualization.  New MMC for managing virtual servers, no more web interface.  The backend is managed through the command line.  You can run 32 bit and 64 bit and SUSE all virtualized on the same server.  You can run an  8 core virtual server, which VMware cannot.  Virtual Machine manager is the console to manage Physical to virtual (P2V), virtual to virtual (V2V), and migrate virtual machines from one server to another with no downtime.  in SCOM 2007 you can not only manage your virtual machines but add in hardware on the fly.  In the demo one of the SQL 2005 machines had an alert for network saturation and in just two steps he added another NIC to the virtual machine with no down time.

Announced partnering with Cisco and EMC to develop the next set of common models (SML) to help manage IT, for servers, mobile devices, application, networks, etc.  All to reduce complexity and ease management.

• Confirmed Windows Server Virtualization will be released about six months after Longhorn.
• Confirmed Longhorn and new version of Visual Studio will be released this year.
• SCOM has RTM'd
