On Friday there was a TechNet webcast on using WmiDiag version 2 for troubleshooting WMI issues. I wasn't able to attend so I can provide any details, here is the introduction on the TechNet site.
"The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is a pervasive component of Microsoft Windows that is often useful in critical situations. Many enterprise management applications rely on WMI, so it is important that administrators know how to troubleshoot it properly. In this webcast, we explore how the WMI team used feedback received from users of the WMI Diagnosis Utility version 1.0 to develop an updated version of the tool, WMI Diagnosis Utility version 2.0. Join this session to learn how WMI Diagnosis Utility 2.0 is even more pervasive and brings additional validation of the WMI infrastructure and its dependencies. We briefly review the WMI architecture and cover the WMI Diagnosis Utility 1.0 before providing an overview of the new features of the WMI Diagnosis Utility 2.0 and describing how to use them."
Here is a link to the new tool, and you can view the webcast on demand by following this link.
And if you are in the mood here are some other tools along the same line.
WMI Code Creator
Scriptomatic
XML Notepad
Do-it-Yourself Script Center
There is also another webcast on troubleshooting WMI, this one is on March 8th and here is the overview for it.
"The Windows Management Interface (WMI) is a pervasive component of Microsoft Windows that is often useful in critical situations. Many enterprise management applications rely on WMI, so it is important that administrators know how to troubleshoot it properly. In this webcast, we examine the WMI architecture and look closely at how it works. We cover common situations you are likely to encounter with WMI and explain how to fix specific issues without compromising the stability of the applications that rely upon it. We also demonstrate how the new WMIDiag tool can assist you in identifying potential issues and make recommendations on how to fix them."
