The Best of CES 2007

January 10, 2007

cnet has announced their top picks for CES 2007.  The best in show went to a dual format DVD player from LG.  They figure if no one can decide on a format then they will make a player that will play both, and for the small price of $1,200 you can sit in your own home and watch movies in 1080p.  Not really sure why this got best in show, but I am not a movie type of person.

The people voted, and their choice was Ford Sync by Microsoft.  This is a flash memory based voice control system for your cell phone, digital audio.  It will read aloud your IM’s as they come in to your Bluetooh phone, play music from your MP3 player.  This will be in 12 Ford models this year, and all models next year.

And for the best in each category…

Cameras and Camcorders, goes to Sony for the HDR-HC7 which offers the new xvYCC color and it starts at $1200.

For the Car Tech category cnet chose Dash Navigations' Dash Express, which promises to integrate real time traffic, really.  Along with it you get features like lowest gas price searching, Yahoo! local search for points of interest, and if you couldn’t afford LG’s $1200 DVD player you can use it to search movie theatres by movie times.

Now for one of my favorite categories, cell phone, PDA, and smart phones, this award goes to Verizon for their V Cast TV phone.  This phone offers a full length, live TV at 30 fps, with 8 channels to choose from, including ESPN, FOX, CBS, and NBC.  Currently LG and Samsung have phones that will support this.

Computer and hardware goes to Microsoft’s Vista.

Emerging technology goes to Powercast, bringing the end of charging batteries to and end by RF.
