Two money-saving cellphone keystrokes

Tech journalist David Pogue offers two keystrokes that can save you call time - and hence money on your cell phone bill.

The first interrupts a voicemail greeting and the annoying Silicone Sally "When you're finished recording, you may hang up or press 1 for more options" routine, and instead and skips right to the beep:

Verizon or Cingular: press *
Sprint: press 1
T-Mobile: press #

This one requires you know which carrier the person you're calling uses, so it'll only work reliably for folks you leave messages for a lot. After the jump, the second, which tells you how many of your allotted minutes you've used up so far at any point in the month.

Verizon: dial #646
T-Mobile: dial #646#
Cingular: dial *646#
Sprint: *4

Handy!
