SoftGrid + Folder Redirection + Group Policy = No More Down Time? No More App Installs?

October 17, 2006

Think back to the dumb terminal days, back when you only had to worry about your servers staying up.  If an end user had a problem, they moved to a different terminal or you replaced it.  Okay I wasn’t really working in IT back then but I have heard stories.

Well imagine this…You give a user a computer with only an OS installed, their computer is in an OU that through group policy locks it down as kiosk, they can’t write to the system at all, they can’t open control panel, they can’t do anything to the system.  When they login they are presented with the icons for all their applications, they can run these applications without actually installing them on their machine, apps that used to hate each other and you had to make registry changes to get to work, no longer have issues at all, their My Documents folder is redirected to a server, but to them it looks like everything is in My Documents.  Now imagine how much something like this would cost you?  $100 per client?  $300?  How about less than $40?  With no cost for the backend servers?  That’s what you can do with Softricity’s SoftGrid application virtualization and group policy.

No more calls about software, if the user has an issue with an app, they right click the icon and select repair.

No more calls for installing software, you add them to the group in AD and they get it right then.

No more long installs.

No more Antivirus software!

No more patching Office!

They want to run VB6 and 2005, no problem!
