As the Time Warner and Comcast deal to purchase bankrupt Adelphia went into affect today they removed the NFL Network from my choice of channels.
Last night after about a 12 hour work day I turned on the NFL Network to watch the hour long review of the Packers training camp and across the top of my TV screen was a notice that my beloved TV network was being axed.
The NFL Network is carrying eight regular season games this year, along with every preseason game. I imagine that they will continue to add more games each season until possibly having multiple channels (one per division?) and all the games. I pay about $150 per month for my cable, including my cable modem and other than Discovery and the NFL Network I could care less about the other channels. So you can see where I would be rather upset if 50% of my viewing pleasure was removed. Did I mention that preseason starts in about 6 days?
But wait there is good news, Verizon has been running fiber all over town for several months now. When they are completed and receive approval they have plans to pump FIOS and Direct TV to each residence. The NFL Network is channel 212 on DirecTV they also offer the NFL Sunday Ticket programming along with ESPN Game Plan.
From what I have read Time Warner is not planning on uping the amount it pays per subscriber to the NFL Network, from about 20–25 cents per subscriber to 50–75 cents each as other providers have reported the increase to be. A difference of 30–55 cents, anyone want to bet that my cable bill is going to increase soon? And no they did not add any channels, oh wait YEAH! I get TBS in high def now.
So as soon as I can get the NFL Network on any provider I will switch, this of course will likely mean I will change my ISP as well. So I can get fiber to my door, the NFL Network, Sunday Ticket, and VOIP? How much longer do I have to wait.
BTW I cannot get a clear line of sight to get a dish or this would be a mute point.
