The speech today was regarding how IT works internally at Microsoft.  There were two demos one showing scorecard in which they showed live internal data about the configuration of their SharePoint servers.  The data was collected into Excel using a Pivot table and it did not go well for Neal.  There were several problems with the configurations and Ron did not look very happy about the results.

340k computers, 106,000 end users, 98 countries, 441 buildings, 46M+ remote connections per month, 189,000+ SharePoint sites internally, 3 data centers, 7,200 production servers, 3M internal emails per day, 120,000 email accounts, 10M inbound emails per day with 9M filtered, 99.99% Exchange availability.

If a machine is not patched they remove it from the network.

Policy says that no email is stored longer than six months unless it is needed for business or legal reasons.
