Day 2 - MMS 2006 - Keynote - Announcements

Very briefly before I have to run off to the SMS State of the Union…

Some major announcements at the Keynote:

  • SMS is being renamed to System Center Configuration Management
  • MOM will also adopt the new “System Center” branding
  • System Center Service Desk was announced
  •  WS-Management ratification by DMTF
  • Monad is now known as PowerShell

 ERP solution for IT, ITIL -based workflow, SDM-based CMDB, Process and Knowledge embedded

 Displays alert with MOM monitored servers along with knowledge

Creates incident records to track problems

Includes Change Request Form for change control

Uses workflow to manage the change control request

Email is sent to manager requesting their review and approval - uses SharePoint for change request interface.

Once approved SMS deploys fix to exchange servers

Package and ad created from service desk

Self Service Portal

Users can view this, a centralized place for end users to peek into what is going on in IT, displays alerts, current issues, knowledge base, etc - uses SharePoint.
