Subject: [MDT-OSD] WDS questions

I am reading over the docs for MDT2010 as we are going to use it for our Windows 7 deployments.  We currently have SCCM 2007 R2 SP1 (updating to SP2 shortly), running on Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit and SQL 2005 64-bit.  I have a few questions I’m hoping someone can answer:

1.       From what I gather, WDS is only used for PXE booting systems, correct?

Yes, it’s used with the PXE role in SCCM

2.       If you don’t use it, you have to use CD/DVD media….can you use USB keys?

yes

3.       You can download and install WDS on Server 2003, but do you lose anything by not using Server 2008/2008R2?

No, only thin 2008 gives you is multicast

Thanks!
