you need the PXE role on any server that will be supporting PXE, so if your central won't be handling the actual PXE responses, then you wouldn't need WDS or PXE installed
Thanks

So no PXE role on the central server since WDS = PXE but I will need the role on the secondary servers for site deployments, right?
Here’s what I’m going for Primary with WDS to capture and deploy images. Secondary with PXE service role to deploy images within designated proxy management point. Make sense?

you need the PXE role in order to support PXE through configmgr
Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. Just to make sure I understand, I don’t need to install the PXE service point on my secondary servers just WDS?

You just need to have WDS installed, ConfigMgr will configure it for you as far as setting up PXE, nothing else is needed in regards to WDS
So depending on network, wherever you need to PXE boot, then you'll need a server with WDS, or however you want that network structure setup

I’m going through the process of integrating MDT and WDS with SCCM 2007 R2 SP2. First question I guess should be if its best practice to install WDS on a Central Site Server? Everything I looked at basically shows the process but I was wondering if there is a better way. Also, If I complete this install on my Central Server do I also need to install MDT and WDS on my Secondary Servers? My primary objective is to be able to capture and push an image through SCCM without needing any other interface. If you have any ideas please let me know.
Thanks,
Brett
