Subject: [mssms] Software Updates Issue
Has anyone ever seen this error when trying to run software updates? I could use a fresh perspective and believe I’m close, but can’t quite seem to put 2 and 2 together.
“This installation failed to start because another update installation is in progress.”
In srvpack.log on the client I see this error: Service Pack 3 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not correct.
Upon reboot, the system says it’s at SP3, but the remaining updates will not install because it still thinks another update is in progress. Nothing exists in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress
Any ideas? I’ve been all over the Internet today looking for an answer to this one.
Checked this KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949384/ and doesn’t apply.
One KB article (822798) lead me to \system32\Catroot2\edb.log. I am unable to open this log file because it’s in use by another process. There is also an edb.tmp file in there as well, but cannot open it for the same reason.
UpdatesDeployment.log shows
InstallUpdates failed, error 80040703
Failed to initiate installation of updates, error = 0x80040703
UpdatesHandler.log shows
ScanByUpdates of ICCMScanAgent failed. Error = 0x80040600
Failed to initiate initial scan task to check applicability of updates.
Scan failed with error = 0x80040600
ScanAgent.log shows

CUpdatesScan::ScanByUpdates - failed at call to CScanAgent::ScanByUpdates(), error=0x80040600
