Subject: [mssms] RE: SCCM and PTR Records

I just did a test on a system that I knew had no record – initiated a AD System discovery and the DDR request was created and the ccmsetup service was started.  The system is now a client so it looks like the PTR records are not required (not sure what other affect that may have, but we’re investigating).

What is affecting us is the fact that expired DHCP leases are not updating DNS so we’re ending up with duplicate records in DNS (ie., two system with the same IP registered in DNS – one of which is an old system no longer on the network).

We’ve been rolling out new hardware and I notice they’re not automatically getting the SCCM client.  I have all the AD discoveries enabled but not Network Discovery.  I’m using the Client Push Installation method.

I’ve noticed that there are no PTR records being created for these systems (there are A records).  Not sure why yet, but would the lack of a PTR record cause the client not to get installed?  I am able to push the client (ie., right-click – Install Client).

Thanks.
