Subject: Re: [mssms] Windows Update icon in systray

Hi,

I'm going to try the options Vasu supplied, but i was wondering if there is some kind of best practise concerning these settings.

Michael: I have the icon on all newly installed machines, some admins configured the settings for themselves, but i just don't want the icon to appear and have consistent settings not conflicting with the settings the configmgr agent needs.

Thanks for your help so far,

Regards,

Kenneth

When do you see that icon? Does it go away? Also, make sure no other gpo is getting in the way....

Subject: [mssms] Windows Update icon in systray

Hi,

We currently use the ConfigMgr Software Updates feature to deploy updates to our clients. This works as expected and we can successfully deploy software updates.
I noticed though that on newly installed machines we still see the Windows Update needs to be configured icon in the Systray.

When looking at the recommended group policy settings for ConfigMgr Client Software updates (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632393.aspx) it mentiones the following:

Automatic Updates Configuration

Automatic Updates allows security updates and other important downloads to be received on client computers. Automatic Updates is configured through the Configure Automatic Updates Group Policy setting or the Control Panel on the local computer. When Automatic Updates is enabled, client computers will receive update notifications and, depending on the configured settings, download and install required updates. When Automatic Updates coexists with software updates, each might display notification icons and popup display notifications for the same update. Also, when a restart is required, each might display a restart dialog box for the same update.

My Question:

Do you simply disable "Automatic Updates Configuration" ? And will this give full control to the ConfigMgr Client to deploy the software updates? Do you configure other Windows Update Group Policy Settings in order to successfully make software updates work.

Thanks in advance
