I have never seen it pull any additional files when I refresh/rebuild the image. Have to make a new custom image to change the files

this one -> you have to create a new Boot Image any time you make a change to the Extra Files?

Once you have selected an "ExtraFiles" directory in the Boot Image creation wizard, should you be able to add/remove files in that directory and refresh the Boot Image to reflect the changes after the fact, or do you have to create a new Boot Image any time you make a change to the Extra Files?

And... my TS still timed out on Installing Software Updates with just SMSSLP=shortname specified, but I couldn't view the logs because I forgot to enable command line support in my new Boot Image with ExtraFiles... Running TS again now WITH command line support, and hopefully with Trace32 in place. Sigh...

Thanks.

yes, this is pure SCCM. no mdt required.

Just go to your boot image and make a new boot image. A wizard should come up that asks you what additional files to include.

I do not have access to a SCCM system at the moment so I cannot get more specific than that..

Todd,

Can you do this with the ConfigMgr boot wim? Or is just with MDT this trick works?

what I do is when I build the custom PE image I use the "Extra files" and put trace32 in there. (along with a lot of other cool stuff)

then in PE I can just hit F8, CD to root, and type trace32 and trace opens up. then I can browse to the log I want and read it

Hi,

I'm finally able to devote myself to building a new CM 2007 R2/MDT image and I've made great leaps and bounds but am stuck again...

General (stupid?) question: how does one review logs like smsts.log in PE when they are still "in use" by the TS? I know I've been able to at some points in the past, but lately when I get stuck on something I can't always access the logs I want to see. Do you just kill all the TS processes after the TS errors out?

Specific question: I know I have network connectivity (ipconfig/ping) and client/server communication (Install Software tasks work OK), but I can only get Software Updates to install on my reference image if I set the Site Code and join the domain. I have smsslp and smsmp specified in the setup properties (tried with FQDN and with short name), and Software Updates were still timing out until I specified the Site Code and set it to join the domain. That would be OK with me, but then sysprep fails at capture, I think because of our complex password requirement from Group Policy, so I guess I need to get it working with joining a Workgroup. The only other chatter I can find about this issue is the need to set smsslp and smsmp... what else could I have messed up?

Thanks.
