I have both. But I’m only using PXE at the moment for stuff. Working on getting this set for SMP…

John –
For #2, assuming you’re talking about client behavior, use MDT-integrated tasks, then the estimate task will determine how much space will be needed for the store, and then set the USMTLocal variable to either true or false. The tasks to use the SMP are conditional on that variable and then the actual capture/restore tasks will function accordingly. In other words – if there’s enough local free space, it’ll put the store on local disk and not encrypt it (since it’s not leaving the system). If there’s not enough free space, the store is encrypted at capture, and pumped up to a SMP on which space was allocated. (Now that I’m thinking about this I don’t know what happens if there’s not even enough free space for the temporary working space – probably fails the task, but don’t quote me on that – just a hunch!)
One catch here – if you customize the capture task using custom XML and/or set the OSDMigrateAdditionalCaptureOptions variable for things like user exclusion, you then also must include the same entries in the CustomSettings.ini, otherwise your estimation will overestimate the amount of space needed.
I hope that answers your question – let me know if not.
Aaron

Do you know the answers to the two questions?
1. Can the store location (server share) be configured to any location that you desire or is it a specific location?
2. When the SMP is installed and you perform a refresh will the state store remain local if there is enough free space or is the network always used?

BUMP...
This is the second question in two weeks I have asked about SMP and/or PSP. Neither are getting much response so let's try something else... RAISE your hand (or reply with yes) if you use either the State Migration Point or Pxe Service Point. I am getting a feelign nobody uses it and that's why nobody responds. Is that true or nor?
