Wii - last on the bandwagon

My nephew really wanted a Wii for his birthday; and although he had enough $ from summer jobs and birthday gifts, they are still very difficult to get.  According to the Sunday paper, the local electronics store was going to have "at least 10" available Sunday.  Unfortunately both my sister and brother-in-law had previous, separate commitments Sunday morning, so I was roped in to go and get one.  I arrived at 9:45 (store opens at 10), and was shocked that there were already 12 people waiting outside the store.  Well, it was "at least 10", and 1 of the people in line looked less than 18--so perhaps he was there with his parents.  I stood in line anyway.  A few minutes later, a store employee came out and said they had 11.  Whew! I was afraid I was going to have to tell my nephews that I showed up too late to get one.  (Later my sister said they spent the whole morning talking about that they'd have one when they got home from church.)

So, grabbed extra controllers, bought the system and drove to my sister's house.  My brother-in-law was back, so with his help (which was a good thing--otherwise I'd never have figured out what channels, etc. to set on their entertainment system); we set it up.  And we were able to get through a game of bowling, golf, and baseball before the kids came back and we had to turn over the controllers.

Now, I'm checking google for "highest rated Wii games".  I just might have a new addiction.

We have Mario Party 8.  It's a fun game.

I'd say not to spend the money on Wii Play...it's just not as good as Wii Sports.

I'm wanting to get Wii fit.

I've played Tiger Woods Golf, Repla (Fishing) and a few others...all of which are fun.

However, we have more "family" fun with the Wii Sports and Mario Party 8.

SO, you did not get a Wii for yourself?

Congrats!  And, welcome to the club!  I have to disagree a bit with Ron -- I like Wii Play.  Wii Play has some good games for "older" gamers who'd rather sit on the couch and play than stand up for everything.  :)

No, I didn't get a Wii for myself; but my sister is just down the road (walking distance).  So already there is a 3rd controller, and Mario Party 8  :-)  Although the youngest nephew expressed annoyance with Mario Party 8--to him, the mini-games were just in the way.  I think he played a version of this game at a friends (on a different system, not a Wii) so he just wanted to continue the coins/get to the star part of the game.  Based solely on "best games" hits, Zelda may be the next game purchased.  My nephew wants "My Sims"; but I didn't see a lot of great reviews on that.
