Hi All,
The Opalis team just blogged about their short term plans, and they look bright.
For starters, platform wise Opalis will step into the 21st century by switching the supported platform to a set of platforms that are more in line with the expectations for a Microsoft product. Support for Windows XP SP2, vista and Windows 7 for the client, and support for windows 2003SP2, and the different flavors and architectures (x86 & x64) of Windows Server 2008. This means support for Windows 2000 is eliminated, also worth noting is that Windows 2003 64 bit is not on the supported platform list.
Additionally 4 new missing integration packs for the System Center product family will be delivered (SCCM, SCSM,SDDPM,SCVMM). These integration packs finally offer integration between the different System Center products at a higher level. Interesting things you could do:
- Virtual Machine provisioning using SCCM OSD & SCVMM
- Patch Management automations for SCCM (Auto - download updates, deploy to test collection, send out Approval request, deploy to production)
- Cluster patch management automation
- Put a machine really in maintenance mode when doing patching
- …..
All of this is coming early in Q4 of this year.
Enjoy!
