  • Dell Management Pack Issue Solved!

I had a client with only Dell servers and moitored by Opsmgr 2007 SP1.

I imported the Dell management pack and after a while I had this error:

    Computer: ComputerName
    Description:
A monitoring host is unresponsive or has crashed. The status code for the host
    failure was 2164195371.
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: MonitoringHost.exe
    Application Version: 6.0.6278.0
    Application Timestamp: 47b71437
    Fault Module Name: HealthServiceRuntime.dll
    Fault Module Version: 6.0.6278.0
    Fault Module Timestamp: 47b71433
    Exception Code: c0000005
    Exception Offset: 00003d9d
    OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.16.7
    Locale ID: 1033

Microsoft discovered an issue in the SNMP networking module that causes the HealthService to become unstable.

There is now a Microsoft hotfix available to fix this error. You can't download the hotfix so you have to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

When I installed the hotfix my issue was solved!

  • Collecting Syslogs with Opsmgr

I've written a little manual for configuring your opsmgr or Essentials so you can collect and generate alerts based on syslogs.

In my example I used a fortigate firewall but you could use whatever network device or unix machine that can send syslogs.

    Have fun,

  • Opsmgr Management Packs Roadmap

You can find the latest MP road map here.

As you will see the windows 2008 will soon be available in Beta on the Connect site!

Another thing to mention is the mp for Exchange 2007 sp1. It should be available since April/08 but it isn't!! @ the moment, the mp for exchange 2007 gives us a lot of trouble with Exchange 2007 sp1. Some performance counters are not collected, heathservice running at 30%, no topology view, etc etc. So I'm really looking forward to it!

The problem was goofy ACLs on the c:Windows\temp\pxebootfiles. When I attempted to revised security, I got an Access is Denied message. Once the above directory was deleted, the SMSBoot folder would populate when the bootimage was refreshed on the PXE point.

I reported it as a bug @ the SCCM product team ...

  • The Virtual Data Center: VMM will manage VI3 infrastructure

In het first key note of MMS 2008, VP Bob Muglia talked about  Dynamic IT: Transforming Management and the Data Center. He confirmed that most of us already understood: Virtualization is the way to go, especially for Data Center environments. The announcement of the VM Manager Beta 2 release was followed by a short demo that showed SCVMM managing a heterogenous VM environment of Windows Hyper-V and ESX servers.  For ESX, VM Man drills into the VM tools installed on the VM machine so you are actually able to perform a guest-OS migration between ESX host servers.

  • Vista Gadget to search system center documents

image Microsoft has published a Vista gadget to help you search for Microsoft System Center products.  The gadget uses Live Search macros to search specific sites instead of the entire website.

I'ts a great tool and very cool but don't spell your word wrong! I typed opsmg instead of opsmgr and the tool could't find any results containing opsmg.

So I think I will still google when I'm looking for info on OPSMG!
