Our recent survey on SCCM client health has generated some good value for all of you. Not only has the survey seemed to have hit a sweet spot with SCCM admins everywhere (response has been phenomenal), but it has raised some eyebrows in the ranks of Microsoft Premiere Support.

Earlier today, I had a nice, sit-down chat (over Lync) with the folks in charge of an add-on service to CMRAP (take time to read that correctly – it’s not “crap” – even though, at first glance it could be). They have been working on some awesome stuff in the area of SCCM client health and remediation. I was able to take a look at some monumental technologies that the group is currently working on and also has released as a product/service through Premiere Support. I could go into a bunch more detail here and probably get into NDA issues, but I’m actually saving that for an upcoming interview with the group that I’ll also be posting here.

In the interim, they’ve allowed me to share something with you to give you a taste of what I saw today and what I’ll be covering a bit later on in the interview (and potentially also a podcast). The System Center Client Health & Remediation Service doc has been uploaded to the Configuration Manager Group’s documents area, and you can download it from there:

Configuration Manager 2007 supports Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3

Per Configuration Manager Support Announcements for August 2011:

Configuration Manager 2007 supports Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3.

System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2, R2 and R3 now supports Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3 as a Configuration Manager 2007 site database.

The Reporting Service Point site system role and Client Status Reporting feature found in System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 and R3, are also supported with these versions of SQL Server.

No software updates are required.

Be the community lead for developing and supporting the Configuration Manager Client Health Check Tool

Long ago, Dan Thomson started development on a neat and valuable community-driven tool to aid in fixing and maintaining the SCCM client. As you know, if the client is broken, SCCM is broken. Dan’s solution is used in a LOT of places. However, Dan has since had a significant job change and no longer has the time to maintain the code. Today, there is a community call-to-action, looking for someone who would be available to take this project over from Dan.

If you are THAT person, or it could be multiple persons, drop me a note and let me know. The community is waiting for a hero to emerge!

The Configuration Manager Client Health Check Tool has it’s own Codeplex project page, too, which you would also be taking over.
