Dell World, the Unconference?
31 August 11 10:16 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

This one's different. Think intimate and high touch.

On a call yesterday, I asked an IT manager from a well-known New York technology company if he planned to attend Dell World. He answered, "love Austin, cool town, but I'm burned out on those huge events. Even when they have a great keynote, there’s no opportunity to engage."

I said, "Wow, that’s so not what Dell World is about. Technology leaders from around the world told us they want a place where they can have two-way conversations about helping customers solve problems. That's what this event is all about.”

Customers Reap Benefits from Microsoft’s Comprehensive Cloud Approach
29 August 11 10:23 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

Customers tell us they want to understand where virtualization ends and cloud computing begins. I hear it frequently: “How can I best invest today to get the benefits of the cloud?” Recently I shared my thoughts on the shifting conversation in the industry from virtualization to cloud computing.  My point: virtualization is an important beginning, not the final destination.  The future will be about the cloud.

Selling an outdated IT plan, from the back of a 70’s van
29 August 11 09:10 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

Microsoft’s latest media push to bash VMWare and market cloud.  Funny stuff…

Some IT providers claim they have a cloud solution but they really offer something less. They don’t offer common management tools that allow you to easily manage and migrate across your private and public clouds. They don’t allow you to manage deep within your applications. And they require licensing that charges more, the more you use.

Xian Wings 1.4 now available: Operations Manager at the touch of a finger
26 August 11 11:07 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

Xian Wings 1.4 is now available for download and it includes many improvements. First, we have completely changed the way in which you make performance graphs. Now you can easily combine different counters from different objects in one graph, and thanks to automatic scaling, all the data will be directly visible without any need for scaling. Of course, you can save this under a specific title to easily go back to it at a later time.

Furthermore, we have made it easier for you to select the objects that you want to be visible in the state view of Xian Wings. In this latest version, you just select the different state views that are already available in Operations Manager and Xian Wings will show the same objects. Starting off your Wings session has really become a matter of minutes now.

Task status is now also available from the Wings console. In a very simplified way, you can now see the task results of tasks ran in the past, no matter if you ran them from your device or from the OpsMgr console.

In the next weeks we will be releasing also Windows Phone 7 support. This version will have the same functionality as the other versions.
