While IT operations often hold data that can vastly improve business operations, it is still often viewed only as a cost center. This topic will explore…

  • The need for strategic information
  • How data in SCCM can be enriched to not only support but to drive business goals.

BDNA Technopedia™ and Normalize™ bring transparency and rapid time-to-decision-making to the world’s most widely used enterprise system management solution.

Transforming Microsoft SCCM data into actionable information useful for IT decision making involves a process of normalization. Normalizing, in this case means sifting through the enterprise-specific asset data generated by SCCM and correlating it with an independent source of IT industry product knowledge.

I recently set off to install SCSM 2010 SP1 into a production environment for the first time. I thought I would share a few things I found out that I wished I had known before my install. This is not to say that if I would have read through the planning and preparation guides on TechNet which are relatively short that I wouldn’t have know this stuff, but who reads that before they install? So here we go:

As each January approaches, the mind can’t help but to think about what this New Year will bring. Inevitably, this mindset ends up bringing itself into the workplace. Being as security-focused and regulatory compliance-centric as we are here at Secure Vantage Technologies, we reached out to a few of our partners to get their predictions on what challenges customers may face this year, changes that may be coming from federal or industry influence and how security and audit solution providers like ourselves may be involved. Here’s what they had to say. Let us know if you agree or disagree.

Microsoft: Windows Intune Still On Track for 2011 Release
21 January 11 08:38 AM | rodtrent | with no comments

No news is good news. That’s essentially the statement from David Kays, director of software development for Windows Intune — a SaaS-based remote management platform for Windows PCs and mobile devices. On the one hand, Kays says he doesn’t have anything new to publicly share. But on the other hand, Kays says Windows Intune is still on track for 2011 delivery. Plus, I suspect we may get more updates during the Microsoft Management Summit (March 21-25, Las Vegas). Here’s why.

How power consumption and cost calculations work in Configuration Manager 2007 R3
20 January 11 06:11 PM | rodtrent | with no comments

Hey everyone, we have had a lot of interest from you about how ConfigMgr 2007 R3 calculates power consumption, and cost of power since we released R3.  We took these questions and spoke with our Sr. Program Manager Onur Koc, to see if we could publish something that places some clarity around these.   In this post we will cover the first area of understanding Power Consumption calculations, and next week we will publish part 2, Power Cost Calculations.

Kevin Holman’s OpsMgr Blog
20 January 11 04:42 PM | rodtrent | with no comments

I just wanted to drop a big “thank you” to Kevin from the community.  I can’t tell you how many times in community discussions I see a question come up and the answer has already been blogged about previously on Kevin’s blog.  The guy is almost psychic.

Kevin is a Premier Field Engineer for Microsoft and his blog is probably one of the best ones by any Microsoft individual.

Great job, Kevin!
