Alex moves on to the Regional Finals in a big way
So, last night, Meg and I sat in the stands at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio
and watched Alex pull up his bootstraps (ignore his blistered feet) and beat the kid that beat him in the District Finals in the 400m.
Alex was heard to say, "No one beats me twice..."
Not only did he win his heat, and beat his "nemesis", but he qualified for the Regional Finals on Saturday. And, he did it in a big way. He had the 2nd best qualifying time, only about a 10th of a second behind the leader (who was in another heat).
So, on Saturday, he runs for a berth to the State competition. He only has to make it into the top 4 finishers to get a trip to State. And, with his qualifying time only a 10th of a second behind the leader, he has a great chance!
I was looking at the stat sheet of the other runners he is against, and next year looks great, too. Those that are even close to being as fast as Alex are all Seniors. That means that the field will be completely open next year as Alex runs for his final high school year.
So, while he has a chance to go to State this year, he has an even better chance to win at State next year. That would be so amazing.
Anyway, I'll leave you with his run for his qualifying round.
And, here you can hear them announce his qualifying to the Regional Finals...
