The last Altiris admin?

Published 07 April 08 11:58 AM | rodtrent

It’s sad, really, but I see less and less information about Altiris’ products filter down through the web.  Every once in a while you may see a post from someone asking for assistance with an Altiris problem, or you may see a new item about Symantec that has a tidbit of Altiris product information in it, but that’s about it.

Last week, I came to understand that the last standing Altiris admin I knew, had migrated from one job to another.  His new job was working with ConfigMgr 2007!

I know there are still quite a few Altiris consultants in the wild, but are there any real Altiris admins?  Is this even a valid job position any longer?

There’s at least one less Altiris Admin that will be heading to ManageFusion this week.

The really sad part, is that if you know the history of myITforum.com, you know that Altiris actually helped us get started way back in 2000.  Altiris provided resources and funds to start this community — then, when they decided to compete with Microsoft instead of just partner with them, they set us adrift and decided to start a new community.  They have since started several communities only to see them short-lived, while myITforum.com carries on.

Well, I know we've got 2 of them in house, but they're quickly getting converted to OpsWare admins...which I think HP is starting to brand as HP Config Manager and is replacing Altiris Notification server and Altiris Deployment server.
