The secret to Spam links

Published 07 September 07 12:32 PM | rodtrent

I received a real looking email today (nice pics, valid email addy) from TimeWarner, telling me that they were having troubles accessing my Internet account for billing purposes.  Looking through the email, they even posted a valid looking link:

https://www.rr.com/rdrun/update

But, after a quick review of the embedded link (hovering the mouse cursor over the email link), it showed, instead, that it was linking to:

What you see isn’t always what you get when it comes to Spam, no matter how real the email message looks.  Just a quick “hover” will tell you volumes of information about the email.  Tell your family and friends and stop this madness.

Someone should come up with an add-in for email apps that searches each email that comes in for embedded URLs that don’t match the display URL and gives a warning.
