Macrovision to fix issue posted earlier today

I received an email a few minutes ago from Bill Smith at Macrovision, who is the Director of Marketing Programs,  in response to my blog post (Uggghhh – Vendor Spam from Macrovision) this morning.

I really appreciate the folks at Macrovision taking the time to look into this so quickly.  Here’s what Bill Smith had to say:

Hello Rod --

I’m writing you in response to your blog post from this morning that mentioned that you have received the same AdminStudio e-mail message from us multiple times. On behalf of Macrovision, please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. We take complaints about e-mail abuse very seriously and have a team investigating the issue on our end.

Our auto-response mechanism is designed to send courtesy reminders periodically to people who download evaluation copies of our software. The messages are not meant to be repetitive; rather, they are designed to provide you with a communication channel if you should have questions about — or wish to purchase — the product you downloaded.

We are doing everything we can to ascertain what happened and fix any bugs that may have cropped up in the system. I do not anticipate that you will receive additional copies of this particular message, but if you do, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you for letting us know about the situation through your blog.

And if you have any questions about AdminStudio, please contact Kevin Ebbesen (cc-ed here).

Sincerely,

-- Bill
