Counting the days until my New Every Two

Published 11 July 07 02:45 PM | rodtrent

August 3rd is my date for swapping my Verizon phone with a new one.  I’ve been pretty happy with my Samsung sch-i730.  The only problem I have with it, is that its still too big for a phone.  And, before anyone says anything — Verizon is the *only* service that works effectively in my area.  You can check back through my blog posts and read about my disdain for the other networks.

So…I’m in decision mode.  The Motorola Q is still too big for my tastes.  I need something I can carry around in my pocket instead of clip to my waist band.  I laugh at folks holding a Motorola Q to their head while driving down the interstate.  It looks like they’re talking into a Pop-Tart.  Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a Pop-Tart.  I was raised on the sweet pastry.  But, you won’t catch me chatting with it.

And, as much as I love (and don’t believe I can live without) a stylus on a Windows Mobile phone, I’m tempted to try the Verizon PN-820 Smartphone.  Does anyone have any experience with this unit?

I’d really love something with Windows Mobile 6.0 installed on it, but it doesn’t seem like Verizon is offering anything with that version.

I was in the same situation just recently, being bound to Verizon.  I recently just chose the PN-820 over the Q and XV6700.

My number 1 priority was staying in touch with email and keeping up to date with my calendar.  The PN-820 serves both of these purposes really well.  I'm not typing up long emails on it, but I'd still like to know as soon as possible if someone sends me an email notifying me that one of my servers is on fire.

Some non-business bonuses were the ability to Slingbox my cable TV, which works great.  Also I'm an old school gamer and enjoy playing some Nintendo titles on the phone.

Pro's:

*Windows Mobile 5.0

*Wireless Sync to laptop with Intellisync Software

*Normal cell phone size!

Con's:

*No Mobile Office software included, but can be downloaded

*Propriatary power cord and usb connector, not standard USB (This one really ticks me off)

*Battery life isn't great, extended battery offered however for around $50.

Thanks!  I appreciate this...it really helps me make the decision.
