Improving network speed in Window Vista

Published 13 January 07 11:52 AM | rodtrent

Pat Goss sent me this information directly after posting about my slow networking woes with Windows Vista.  I’ve applied the command-line (which has to be run in elevated mode on Windows Vista, btw) and I’m ready to test.  Thanks, Pat!

Here is something we have documented in our environment.

At times, use of network resources in Windows Vista can be very slow. Users have reported problems with RDP connections, applying GPO's, building consistent lists of network devices, and the like. The problem is that Vista can be overly aggressive about automatic network tuning, to the point that overall network and system performance can severely degrade.  In order to prevent Vista from automatically attempting to tune the network, turn the feature off using the following elevated command line --

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled”
