Microsoft DST patch issues with iNotes (Domino Web Access)

I just wanted to give everyone that uses iNotes a heads up regarding issues we experienced here with the Daylight Saving Time changes and Domino Web Access (Lotus iNotes).

I used SMS to patch our workstations and servers for the Daylight Saving Time changes and users started to report receiving an error similar to the following when they used iNotes (the Lotus Webmail client):

"Your timezone setting is different from your operating system's current  one. You can change your timezone setting by going to the Calendar section in  the Preferences dialog."

Apparently this occurs when the workstations have been patched but the back-end (Lotus server stuff) has not.  The article from IBM explains it:

Diminishing the industry noise...

Greg Butterfield of Altiris says what everyone wants to hear, as Altiris prepares to be absorbed by Symantec:

"Our existing team will remain in place," Butterfield said. "Symantec recognizes the success we've had, [and] they do not want to screw that up."

Seriously, though…how many times have we heard this just before an acquisition went horribly wrong?

Here’s the rest of the article…

It says, 8.0, but it's really 7.5

FLEXnet AdminStudio SMS Edition provides the ability to prepare, publish, and distribute software packages via SMS 2003 without ever touching the SMS console.

Updated on December 14, 2006, supposedly to the 8.0 version.  Yet, after installation, the application says it’s version 7.5.

Wow -- what tact!
30 January 07 08:26 PM | rodtrent | with no comments

One company, Service-now.com, is taking advantage of the fact that Symantec has a horrid reputation and that’ll possibly ruin the Altiris product line.  Serivce-now.com is offering free trade-ins on Altiris helpdesk and asset management.  The free trade-in will include full use of the Service-now.com application suite, customized training and technical support for the maintenance fee of their Altiris relationship.

Finally found something that doesn't work well on Windows Vista
30 January 07 12:45 PM | rodtrent | with no comments

I’ve been running Windows Vista for a couple weeks now, and just today, I found an application (actually, a piece of an application) that doesn’t work correctly.  The “image viewer” of WinZip doesn’t show compressed images correctly.  Wow, I’m crushed…  :  )

So, who will show up at MMS 2007? Altiris or Symantec?
30 January 07 11:26 AM | rodtrent | 2 comment(s)

I bet it’s too late for Symantec to change all of the Altiris’ booth gear.  But, the vendor area at MMS 2007 should be interesting.

hehe…we should all get together and ask Altiris support questions about Symantec products.
