Functionality of Rule Generator

Rule generator can do the following on any target machine:

• Automatically create DCM data sources / settings / rules for all hot fixes present on the target machine. The end result will be a DCM xml manifest which can be executed directly with DCM Engine. No modifications are required to the produced manifest.
• Automatically create DCM data source / settings / rules for all services present on the target machine. For each detected service, Rule Generator will generate rules to verify if the service exists, the startup mode of the service and that the state of the service is correct. The end result will be a DCM ml manifest which can be executed directly with the DCM Engine. No modifications are required to the produced manifest.
• Automatically generate / customize rules for already existing simple settings in a give manifest. For instance, you can download several manifests from Microsoft for use with DCM Solution. These manifests will not be customized as per your target machines. If you execute rule generator on the target machine with any of these manifests, Rule Generator will automatically detect the actual values on the target machine and produce a manifest with modified rules. However, some of the settings provided by Microsoft do not have rules. Rule Generator will detect this and will automatically generate the missing rules under those settings. In the event if a setting is not detected on the target machine, Rule Generate will ignore the same. Rule Generator will always produce a new manifest but will not overwrite your master DCM manifests. You can use the tuned / generated manifests directly with DCM Engine. There is no need to import any of these xml manifests because they are already as per the DCM Schema.
