Adobe's suggested fix to their latest 'critical' security issue?

As I posted earlier, Adobe has released security bulletin on a security issue in the Reader product that they deem as “critical”.  OK — thanks, Adobe, it’s “critical”.  But, don’t you think a software company that admits a critical security issue would make the fix easy for their customers?

No – not Adobe.  When has Adobe ever done anything right?  Why take the extra step that every other vendor on the planet takes to ensure the product is secure?

What is Adobe’s solution?  Either a) replace a DLL on the computer that’s probably already in-use (which means you’ll basically have to roll your own patch and force a reboot) or, b) upgrade to the most recently released version of the application, version 8.  Version 8 of Adobe Reader, by the way, installs Photoshop Album Starter Edition.  What’s that?  Installing Adobe Reader version 8 installs extra crap on the computer?  Yep, that’s the case.

So, instead of fixing a security issue, Adobe is using a vulnerability in their product to push yet another crappy Adobe product.  Marketing at it’s finest, huh?

No one really likes Adobe’s document format anyway.  I’m glad that Microsoft is working on a replacement and can’t wait until that day finally comes.
